Please email your interest and include your phone number and they will be in contact with further details.

The survey can take place in changeable weather and is in an environment with a rough walking surface and water hazards.  Therefore, due to health and safety considerations, they have had to set basic criteria for those wanting to take part in our survey.

These are as follows:

Survey participants must be:

  • Capable of walking unaided on a rough surface for at least 4 hours – we expect you to be honest about this.

  • Over the age of 12.

  • Appropriately dressed for the day’s conditions – clothing and footwear.

  • Carrying sufficient food and water for 4 hours.

  • Prepared to get wet feet and legs.

  • Prepared to obey group leaders’ instructions relative to river crossings – where and when.

  • Have good eyesight.

  • Able to distinguish between basic riverbed bird species

Note: The final decision as to who takes part in the survey rests with the chief organiser of the day.  You must be prepared to accept that decision.

Riverbed ID Sheet and Survey Procedures

Below is the Survey Procedure document and Bird ID sheet to read before the day.

A training session will be available on the weekend prior to help identify river birds to those interested.

The Ashley-Rakahuri Rivercare Group look forward to receiving your interest to participate in this important day of their year's work!
